It’s often worth noting for DFS when a team’s bullpen is depleted. For your hitters, sure, but also when choosing your SPs. Such is the case with the Cubs today. Quintana is fairly expensive ($11.7k on DK, not too bad at $8.8k on FD), and he figures to go deeper in the game than other SPs making their first start of the year. Also consider that Quintana may well be the Cubs’ best SP, and that he’s going against Dillon Peters and an equally depleted Marlins’ pen, not to mention what is to my eyes a AAA lineup. The double edge comes into play if Quintana doesn’t have it today – he’ll stay out there to get torched. But that is unlikely.
SPs to pair with him on DK or to use as subs on FD, in order of preference:
Sonny Gray – the Blue Jays look highly vulnerable to RH pitching, and Josh Donaldson has a bad shoulder.
Jacob Faria – the Red Sox are less threatening away from Fenway.
Luke Weaver – I like the Mets’ lineup on most days, not so much today with Flores and Lagares against a righty. But ask me to bet on one hitter going deep today and I’ll take Cespedes.
Gerrit Cole – Would own him in a heartbeat but the weather is warm and the wind is blowing out in Arlington.
