FAAB Market

It’s rare that any position is barren in 12-team leagues. In 15-team leagues the pickings can get slim, but there’s always something.

Catcher – Always the pickings are slim in absolute terms, but relative to other catchers there are a few guys who shouldn’t hurt. In my Main Event league, Kevin Plawecki is out there and very much worth a roster slot. He should spark a mild bidding war since a) he’s pretty good and b) he looks to get more playing time than your basic backup C. Some teams may have dropped Tyler Flowers, but if you have an injury hole you can’t fill it with Flowers at this time. You need Victor Caratini or Devin Mesoraco. Or whoever becomes a regular after someone gets hurt tomorrow.

1st Base – Good things. Colin Moran is getting most of the ABs and will qualify at 3rd base after this week. The question is will his newfound power stick, and given the New Ball that remains in effect as far as I can see, I say yes, but not big time. He should hit .280 with 18 HRs. Dan Vogelbach is finally getting his platoon shot and making something of it. I maintain, in the face of ridiculous ridicule, that Matt Adams is a good hitter very capable of .280 with 25 HRs, but he is blocked as we speak. Adrian Gonzalez is not quite done. Luis Valbuena is platooning with Kinsler out and looks to be on his high side.

2nd Base – It’s too late to grab Ryan Flaherty. If you were clever enough to pick him up last week, drop him please. Pick up Adam Frazier or Yolmer Sanchez. They will be better from now on. Carlos Asuaje is getting the ABs right now but that will change if he doesn’t start doing something, and his something is not much in any case. Zobrist and Descalso are better than nothing.

3rd Base – Cory Spangenberg is likely to get some of Asuaje’s ABs. Good speed with a little pop. Both Valbuena and Yolmer Sanchez also qualify here. Hernan Perez is playing against lefties, and will enter games in the 6th inning at various positions.

Shortstop – Aledmys Diaz looks like 2017 never happened, but to be honest I don’t know what happened in 2017. Nick Ahmed is off to a strong start which I don’t believe. Jordy Mercer is often available as a stopgap.

Outfield – Hate Jake Marisnick‘s Ks but the power and especially the speed are there, and he’s at least the Astros’ 4th OF. Surprisingly, there is not a lot else out there. Spangenberg and Hernan Perez qualify. Brian Goodwin is talented but blocked. Again, tomorrow someone like Dustin Fowler or Juan Lagares could get relevant.

Pitcher – Strickland and Keynan Middleton probably went last week but both are worth a big bid (25% or a little more of your FAAB money) if not. This week the guess is who will close while Knebel is out, and how about if I say I want no part of this? I stayed away from the Cardinal closer crapshoot, but now I’m going to bid for Jordan Hicks and his 100 mph fastball, and I’m bidding to get him. There are a few SPs available but all of them are probable disasters. Lookee but no touchee. I would instead grab Tommy Kahle or Adam Warren or Nick Goody for a pittance.

    Gene,

Also, Andujar or Eloy-Jim? I only have room for 1…Thanks again, Dan

I would let Faria be for now. He’s just wild. Also for now, Andujar. Eloy is still rehabbing his pec and probably won’t be up for a while.
